Ocean Senses

AKMA-PROJECT – NORWAY

AKMA-OceanSenses is a project developed during a Research Expedition (11-23 May 2022) aboard the research vessel Kronprins Håkon to the Barents Sea and Arctic Ocean (akma-project.com Advancing Knowledge about Methane in the Arctic). It is focused on both science and education during lesson plans and ideas that inspire to learn about the ocean and connect to it via their senses. Teachers from kindergarten to high school- are the primary audience, and can use the lesson plans as guide for younger pupils at school or science fairs.

The AKMA project was funded by Norwegian Research Council and led by the UiT – The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in the USA.

We have developed 16 interdisciplinary lesson plans and ideas to learn about the ocean and connect to it via your senses, which re summarised in this booklet.

All the lesson plans were developed within a research project called Advancing Knowledge about Methane in the Arctic (AKMA Project number 287869). The AKMA project was funded by Norwegian Research Council and led by the UiT – The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in the USA.

The booklet is available online or as printed version.
